Surprise Proposal at Lake Kawaguchi: A Spring Afternoon with Cherry Blossoms and Mt. Fuji
Nico first reached out with a vision in mind: a spring proposal in Japan surrounded by iconic landmarks and cherry blossoms in full bloom. He had three dream locations on his list—Chureito Pagoda, Lake Kawaguchi, and Hakone Shrine. All places he had seen on my Instagram and instantly fell in love with.
To help narrow it down, I provided a detailed breakdown of each option, explaining what kind of views to expect, what time of day would offer the best light, and what the crowd levels might be like. After some back-and-forth, we landed on Koagamasao Memorial Park at Lake Kawaguchi.
With soft pink cherry blossoms framing the scene and Mt. Fuji standing tall in the background, it felt like the perfect setting for a heartfelt afternoon proposal.
Planning the Surprise
Once the location was confirmed, I asked Nico to add me on WhatsApp, send over a selfie so I could easily recognize them, and share his live location at least one hour before the scheduled time. These small steps help everything stay smooth and discreet, especially for a moment that’s meant to stay a surprise until the very last second.
The proposal was scheduled for 2 PM. I arrived early to scout the area again and kept in contact with Nico through WhatsApp to make sure everything was on track. Being in position ahead of time gave me the chance to find the best angle, read the light, and blend into the surroundings naturally.
A Spring Proposal to Remember
When Nico finally knelt down to propose, cherry blossoms swayed gently in the breeze and Mt. Fuji stood clear and majestic in the distance. It was a quiet, intimate moment—just the two of them, wrapped in the beauty of Japan’s spring season.
After the surprise, we took time for a relaxed photo session, capturing both their joy and the stunning location. Lake Kawaguchi gave us a beautiful mix of textures, from sakura trees to mountain reflections on the water.
