A Full-Circle Elopement in Tokyo: Kristi & Jay’s Story

I naturally meet a lot of people through my line of work. In my 10 years in the industry, I’ve worked with countless clients, wedding planners, and organizers. While meeting so many people and capturing their stories is always a joy, it can be hard to keep track of everyone over the years.

They say you never meet people without a reason, and while that saying can feel far off in an industry like mine, it rang especially true when I captured Kristi and Jay’s elopement wedding in Japan.

I had previously worked with Serendipity Wedding Planner, who planned the entire elopement. They referred the couple to me after Kristi and Jay availed a video package for their wedding. Once we were introduced, I got in touch right away and made sure they were fully informed about the process and what to expect along the way.

As I got to know the couple better, I realized something unexpected: I had photographed Kristi’s cousin’s couple shoot just a few weeks prior! Talk about invisible string theory. I found my way back to this couple through a referral, and even worked with a close relative of the bride shortly before their wedding.

On the day of the elopement, the couple chose to get ready at the venue in Koishikawa, Bunkyo City, Tokyo. The space felt calm and peaceful, making it a perfect setting for an intimate ceremony.

I focused on capturing their day through video, and the stills you see here are taken from that footage. It was a pleasure getting to know Kristi and Jay and documenting such a meaningful moment in their lives.

I was truly grateful for the trust they placed in me to capture this once-in-a-lifetime occasion. Being referred for this job also felt like a quiet affirmation of the work I’ve built over the years. Thank you again to my friends at Serendipity for the continued trust.
