Mount Fuji Sightseeing Turned Surprise Proposal: Alan and Joanne’s Story
Many young couples choose to spend a holiday together in Japan, and honestly, who wouldn’t? With its beautiful scenery, incredible food, and endless shopping spots, Japan makes the perfect travel destination. Alan and Joanne booked a two-week trip to Japan and reached out to me to document a photoshoot around Lake Kawaguchi.
While in the area, visitors often stop by iconic spots like the Chureito Pagoda, a five-story pagoda perched on a mountainside with Mount Fuji in the background. It’s one of the most recognizable views of Mount Fuji, and during spring, cherry blossoms add an extra layer of charm to the scene.
Less than a 20-minute drive away is Nagasaki Park, a lakeside spot with stunning Mount Fuji views. Depending on the season, different flowers bloom throughout the park, and best of all, entrance is free! It’s a quiet and scenic alternative to more crowded locations.
The couple stayed in the area for two days and booked a standard two-hour Kawaguchiko shoot across one to two locations. What Joanne didn’t know was that Alan had secretly planned to propose during the photoshoot. He coordinated with me ahead of time, including a request for a flower bouquet and other details we discussed privately.
I picked them up early in the morning from their hotel, and we headed to the pagoda first to catch the sunrise. After taking shots from different angles, we made our way to Nagasaki Park for the proposal. Because we arrived early, we were able to avoid the crowds and I captured the place all to themselves.
The shoot and the proposal went beautifully. The couple was happy with the results, and I was just as happy with how everything turned out. These locations are truly no-fail, no matter the season, and I’m grateful that Alan and Joanne trusted me to capture such an important milestone.
