A Surprise Proposal in Tokyo Planned from the US
Tokyo, the capital and largest city of Japan, is a bustling metropolis that serves as the country’s economic and cultural center. It is a city where modern life and long standing traditions exist side by side. Visitors can enjoy everything from great food and historic temples to pop culture, shopping districts, and an incredibly efficient public transportation system.
Beyond the busy streets and entertainment districts, Tokyo also offers several peaceful green spaces. Many of these parks are located right in the city center or just a short train ride away, providing a refreshing break from the fast pace of the city.
One of these is Shinjuku Gyoen, located just a short walk from Shinjuku Station. The park is made up of three distinct styles of gardens. There is a traditional Japanese landscape garden with large ponds, small islands, and elegant bridges, as well as a formal French garden and an English style landscape garden. Despite its large size and beautifully maintained grounds, entry to the garden only costs 500 yen.
Tayvon had originally planned to propose to his girlfriend Amy in this park. It was actually one of his friends who first reached out to me to ask about proposal planning. The couple lives in the United States and were visiting Tokyo for five days, so he wanted to make sure the proposal could fit into their travel schedule.
They asked for help with planning the proposal, coordinating the logistics, and capturing the moment through photos. They booked a quick proposal package and we immediately began preparing the details.
The plan was later adjusted due to the weather, and we also added a nighttime shoot near Tokyo Tower so they could make the most of their experience in the city.
While I was not there to photograph the proposal myself, my associate Behnaz was fully briefed on the plan and handled everything perfectly.
The city lights, cherry blossoms, and Tokyo Tower created a beautiful backdrop for the moment. The photos captured a blend of elements that Tokyo is known for, combining the romance of the proposal with the atmosphere of the city at night.
Their friends and family were also there to celebrate with them, which made the moment even more special. It was warm, joyful, and truly one of those memories that will stay with them forever.
