Crossing Countries for a Sunrise Proposal in Japan
They say there are two types of travelers: fast travelers who jampack their days with places and events to make the most out of their trip, and slow travelers who like to spend a day or two in a new city to really take it all in.
Johnny, who is from Sydney, was planning a proposal trip to Japan with his partner, Tina. Like most of my clients, I usually sit down and talk with them about their plans. Johnny told me that he would be staying at Lake Kawaguchi and wanted to propose in an intimate location with a nice view of Mount Fuji.
Since the view of Fuji-san is at least two hours away from Tokyo, he planned a two-night stay near the area so they wouldn’t be too tired to explore.
I suggested Nagasaki Park as the location for the proposal and the photoshoot. Since he wanted fewer people around, I also recommended a sunrise proposal as the most ideal option.
Nagasaki Park offers a calm atmosphere in the morning. It is not too busy and features a mix of beach elements and vegetation, which looks great even in March. From here, you can see a clear and unobstructed view of Mount Fuji, including its full left and right ridgelines, both directly ahead and to the side.
He was set on the idea, and we agreed on a sunrise proposal in March. I outlined the process to him, explaining that since it would be a surprise, the photographer would first pose as a tourist and then transition into a portrait session after he proposed
On the day of the proposal, my trusted associate, Tah Kitti, photographed the entire moment.
Just as our research and preparation predicted, a clear view of Mount Fuji appeared when Johnny went down on one knee. It was magical, just the two of them with Japan’s tallest peak as their backdrop.
Johnny chose the one-hour, single-location basic package and was very happy with the results. Their Japan trip was more than just exploring a new place; it was also about opening a new chapter in their relationship.
If you are planning a proposal near Mount Fuji or anywhere in Japan, I would be happy to help you plan. From choosing the location to coordinating the details, let’s create a moment that feels natural and personal.
