Bringing a Surprise Proposal to Life at Showa Kinen Park
We’ve been working in this industry for a long time now, and because we get to meet so many different people, work never really gets boring. But every once in a while, we photographers like to spice things up a bit too. This time, my associate Leena played the role of a photographer building her portfolio and offering free photos.
But before we get to the proposal itself, let me take you back to everything that happened beforehand.
Jake wanted to propose to his girlfriend, Kaya, during their trip to Japan. While he initially wanted to plan everything himself, he knew social media algorithms can be tricky. One search about proposals and suddenly your entire feed becomes wedding content. Not wanting to accidentally spoil the surprise, he asked his mom, Candace, for help.
Candace then reached out to me and shared something that made everything even more exciting: Kaya had secretly hoped Jake would propose during their Japan trip too!
Their Tokyo trip also happened to fall around the anniversary of their “commitment to each other,” so it became the perfect excuse for the couple to spend time alone. Since they were traveling with Kaya’s parents, it gave them a reason to step away and have an intimate moment together.
They booked a one-hour photoshoot package with a video add-on and also requested for our team to prepare a flower bouquet. As mentioned earlier, Leena handled the photography while Tah Kitti worked on the videos.
The proposal took place at Showa Kinen Park, located about 30 minutes away from central Tokyo. The park is known for its open spaces, seasonal flowers, ponds, and beautiful walking trails.
Kaya was completely surprised when Jake finally proposed, and the team was happy to capture it all unfold. After she said yes, they continued around the park and took more photos and videos together.
Everything went smoothly, and we were really happy with how everything turned out.
It was just another ordinary day in Japan, but under the quiet beauty of Showa Kinen Park, two people found their forever. We were so happy to be part of a proposal like this. Unique would be an understatement considering all the planning and little details behind it, but moments like these are exactly what make this work so fulfilling.
