Cherry Blossom Proposal at Chureito Pagoda: Mount Fuji Views and a Picnic
I often introduce myself as a photographer specializing in proposals, elopements, and weddings in Japan. Having lived here for 14 years and worked in this industry for a long time, I’ve had the chance to shoot across different locations like Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Kawaguchiko, and more.
Ankit reached out to me about his plan to propose to his girlfriend, Div, who had just graduated. He wanted help finding the best location and timing to catch cherry blossoms with a view of Mount Fuji.
I shared a few location options around Kawaguchiko, and he was immediately drawn to them. He eventually chose Chureito Pagoda, a five storied pagoda set on the mountainside overlooking Fujiyoshida City, with Mount Fuji in the background.
He also trusted my recommendation on timing. I suggested going early in the morning during the second week of April for better visibility and a higher chance of peak blooms.
While many people head up the 400 steps to the viewing platform, I recommended staying at the lower area for the proposal to avoid crowds while still getting a great view.
With the plan in place, he also asked for a simple picnic setup with a bouquet so everything would be ready on the day. It made things easier for him, especially with the nerves that come with a surprise proposal.
On the day of the proposal, I posed as a tourist and waited for him to pop the question.
I was able to capture stunning photos of the couple at the bottom of the stairway, with cherry blossoms perfectly framing them. It was beautiful, and we were able to bring Div’s ideal proposal to life.
After the proposal, we continued with a two hour shoot across two locations, which was part of the standard package.
If you’re planning your own proposal shoot, feel free to reach out. I offer three packages to choose from, and each one is tailored to you and your partner. We can also help source bouquets, organize a picnic, or add small decor touches to make your proposal even more special.
