Two Surprises in One Day: A Cherry Blossom Appearance and a Surprise Proposal in Tokyo

Shinjuku is best known for its buzzing nightlife, karaoke rooms, and sweeping city views. Most visitors head straight to observation decks to take in the skyline of Tokyo’s skyscraper district.

But while the area is often busy and loud, there are quieter corners worth discovering. One of them is Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, located just a short walk from Shinjuku Station.

Shinjuku Gyoen is one of the largest and most beloved parks in Tokyo, and it truly lives up to its reputation. Inside, you’ll find wide open lawns, beautifully maintained walking paths, and peaceful scenery, making it the perfect escape from the fast-paced city around it.

Over the years, I’ve been called a “proposal specialist,” and while I’m grateful for the trust, I won’t lie, it comes with a bit of pressure. Still, I always do my best to deliver.

This week, I had the pleasure of working with Eldrinn, who was planning to propose to his girlfriend, Louanne. As with all surprise proposals, we started with a call to carefully plan the details and make sure everything would run smoothly on the day.

During our conversation, I learned that the couple was visiting Japan for two weeks, and Eldrinn hoped to propose sometime between February 2 and 5 while they were in Tokyo.

He wanted the moment to feel quiet and private, which quickly led us to Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. He was especially drawn to one of the bridges in the park.

Once the location was confirmed, I blocked off February 4 in my calendar and explained how I usually blend in as just another tourist, sharing my live location on the day to keep the surprise intact.

On the day of the proposal, Eldrinn got down on one knee by Tamamo Pond, a historic pond within the garden. After the proposal, I guided them around the park for a photoshoot, where we were also lucky enough to be surprised with early cherry blossom blooms in Tokyo. We took our time, captured more moments, and made sure their story was fully documented.

For this proposal, Eldrinn chose the Basic Photography Package, which includes one hour of coverage, at least 30 edited photos delivered within a week, and 2–3 edited images sent on the same day for sharing.

If you’re planning a proposal or milestone moment in Japan, feel free to explore my other packages below. I also offer video coverage and can help coordinate details like flowers or music, so you can focus on the moment while I take care of the rest.
