A Peaceful Sunrise Proposal at Hakone’s Peace Torii
When Guillaume first reached out, he shared that he and his partner Emily were traveling to Japan to celebrate their third anniversary as a couple and he wanted to make it unforgettable.
His plan? A romantic sunrise proposal at Hakone’s famous Peace Torii, the red gate that appears to float on the waters of Lake Ashi.
As soon as he described his vision, I knew how special this would be. The Peace Torii is one of the most symbolic and serene spots in Japan - a place where nature, water, and emotion blend beautifully. Guillaume mentioned how much this trip meant to them, and how he wanted the moment captured discreetly but authentically.
With their tight travel schedule, we planned for an early morning shoot to make the most of the soft golden light and quiet surroundings.
At sunrise, the atmosphere was calm. There was just the gentle sound of the water and the first light touching the torii gate. When Guillaume knelt down to propose, Emily’s surprise and joy filled the scene.
They had also chosen a few thoughtful add-ons for their session - a delicate flower bouquet that complemented the morning tones, and a short video to preserve every movement and emotion from the proposal. After the session, I gave them a lift back to their hotel, where they could continue celebrating their first few moments as fiancés.
This Hakone proposal was simple, meaningful, and perfectly timed - proof that early mornings can hold the most magical beginnings.
