Surprise Proposal at One of Japan’s Most Beautiful Gardens
When people think of Japan, cities like Osaka often come to mind for their food and energy. But just a short trip away, places like Okayama offer a completely different experience. Known for its gardens, traditional scenery, and nearby castle views, it’s a quieter, more low-key setting where you can slow down and enjoy nature.
Vivian and Benjamin, a couple from Singapore, were visiting Japan at the end of March. Benjamin reached out to me for proposal location suggestions near Osaka, with one main preference in mind: somewhere scenic but not too crowded, as his girlfriend preferred a more private setting.
Instead of staying within Osaka, we decided to head out to Okayama Korakuen. Located less than an hour away from Osaka Station by train, it is one of Japan’s three great landscape gardens, known for its open spaces, natural beauty, and well-maintained grounds.
It turned out to be the perfect fit. The setting was calm and scenic, with cherry blossoms in bloom, offering the kind of peaceful atmosphere he had envisioned. It also provided a more relaxed alternative to the usual city parks.
My associate, Alejandra Acosta, photographed the proposal. She scouted the location the night before, and on the day itself, coordinated closely with Benjamin through WhatsApp by sharing live locations and reference photos to make sure everything was positioned perfectly.
We also arranged a bouquet with baby’s breath, adding an extra surprise to the moment.
The entire shoot and proposal went smoothly. Their timing couldn’t have been better with cherry blossoms in full bloom.
The photos turned out beautifully and it was great to see Benjamin’s vision come to life. It was a priceless moment and we are happy to have captured it as an everlasting memory for them.
